Why?: The Most Important Question We Have

In today’s world “why?” is the most important question we have. Our why is what drives what we do as professionals and as people. Our clients’ “why?” is a request for value. The “why?” of our employees and teammates is a way to push the status quo or connect with our values.
“Why?” is so important because it is the crux of what we are doing. It is the reason we are doing what you are doing for a living. It is why are we working with or for that company. It is why are we spending our time on that certain hobby. The question elicits a glimpse into the passions and motivations of us as individuals.
“This may be the most compelling word of all. “Why”. It motivates people to think and wonder. Children ask “why” of everything.
The reason “why” is so important in human thought is that thought revolves around meaning. If something has no meaning to us, we ignore it. When it takes on meaning, we fix our attention on it.”
In short, the world today revolves around “Why?”
I started 515 Design Print with a very specific why. I love print and I love to help. That idea was the foundation of my educational and consultative approach. I felt there was value in being able to offer insight to clients. I felt it was important to be able give people as much information and education about our products as I could regardless of whether or not they chose me as a partner. This idea is what builds the relationships and trust I have with my clients.
The best relationships I have are with people that believe in their why. They have built their lives around the reason they do things and the results they’ve achieved by doing so. “Why?” is a character building, daily exercise designed to promote and develop mental and emotional strength.
We all have an abundance of time on our hands these days. Now would be a great time to contemplate your own why. Your why will be the reason you are able to hunker down during the bad times and your why will be your anchor to humility in the good times. Reconsider why you are doing things the way you always have.
Is it easier than change? Is it because your comfortable with how things are? Is it because you have no reason to question the current state of your business? Or is it simply because you never thought to ask yourself why?
Start that business. Reach out to a new contact. Try a new approach.
Now would be a great time to ask yourself why not?
