Why?: The Most Important Question We Have

In today’s world “why?” is the most important question we have. Our why is what drives what we do as professionals and as people. Our clients’ “why?” is a request for value. The “why?” of our employees and teammates is a way to push the status quo or connect with our values.

“Why?” is so important because it is the crux of what we are doing. It is the reason we are doing what you are doing for a living. It is why are we working with or for that company. It is why are we spending our time on that certain hobby. The question elicits a glimpse into the passions and motivations of us as individuals.

Brandon Iurato, a motivational speaker, author and trainer, discusses this idea in his blog:

            What’s Your Why?

“This may be the most compelling word of all. “Why”. It motivates people to think and wonder. Children ask “why” of everything.

The reason “why” is so important in human thought is that thought revolves around meaning. If something has no meaning to us, we ignore it. When it takes on meaning, we fix our attention on it.”

In short, the world today revolves around “Why?”

I started 515 Design Print with a very specific why. I love print and I love to help. That idea was the foundation of my educational and consultative approach. I felt there was value in being able to offer insight to clients. I felt it was important to be able give people as much information and education about our products as I could regardless of whether or not they chose me as a partner. This idea is what builds the relationships and trust I have with my clients.

The best relationships I have are with people that believe in their why. They have built their lives around the reason they do things and the results they’ve achieved by doing so. “Why?” is a character building, daily exercise designed to promote and develop mental and emotional strength.

We all have an abundance of time on our hands these days. Now would be a great time to contemplate your own why. Your why will be the reason you are able to hunker down during the bad times and your why will be your anchor to humility in the good times. Reconsider why you are doing things the way you always have.

Is it easier than change? Is it because your comfortable with how things are? Is it because you have no reason to question the current state of your business? Or is it simply because you never thought to ask yourself why?

Start that business. Reach out to a new contact. Try a new approach.

Now would be a great time to ask yourself why not?

What Do We Do Now?

How do we proceed in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak of 2020?

With the world full of uncertaintity, how do we proceed?

I want to start by saying we will get through this. I'll admit, it is going to be difficult, but we will get through this. The question has been asked across the country and I am no different; what do we do now?

Budgets are shrinking or gone. Sales are down. The mood around the world is uncertain. But there are things we can do. We can help by sharing our strengths and resources. We can build awareness for our brands. We need to work together over the next few weeks to prepare for business after COVID-19.

What does that look like? In an environment where a digital presence is invaluable, we can turn to our social profiles and blog posts. Produce content, share content and offer to help each other.

If we come together and pool our resources for the benefit of everybody, we will come out of this on our feet. Together, I believe we are greater than the sum of our parts. I understand no one wants to work for free. But this isn't working for free. This is an opportunity to build relationships, help one another and to keep our businesses alive.

I am a small business owner like many of you. Things have hit my bottom line like they have yours. I would like to take this time to extend an offer of services. If anyone reading this needs web design, graphic design or any other services I may be able to help with, I'm offering to work with you on a barter system or offer payment options until you and your company are back on your feet. We'll help with whatever we can and if you just need someone to talk to, we can help with that as well. This is us doing our part to help us all work together.

It will be OK. We need to take this time to focus on what we can do to help others and what we can do to position ourselves well when business starts moving again.

We mean it when we say we love print and we love to help.

I hope you stay well, and I hope to hear from some of you over the next few weeks.

Sincerely,
